It is very easy to settle into a habitual life style with the same routine everyday and not so easy to break out of it. But, with a little effort you can liven up your stagnant routine.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Start by changing up your mornings. Wake up a little earlier one day and eat a full breakfast. The next day sleep as late as you can without being late.

  2. Step 2

Take a different route to get to work or where ever you are heading. Take back roads, walk to a farther train, or get out before your normal stop and walk a few extra blocks to your destination.

  3. Step 3

While on your way change up from listening to music one day to listened to radio the next, or reading a book one day and the newspaper the next.

  4. Step 4

Make an effort to find a new place to eat every few days. Even if you really like one burrito place, make yourself look for something else, just to try.

  5. Step 5

If you have a list of tasks or errands you need to accomplish everyday, do them in different orders (if you can). This will help liven it up as well as make you pay attention more.

  6. Step 6

Make an effort to never do the same thing at night twice in a row in a week. If you went home last night, go out to a movie. If you ate out last night, make a meal at home.

  7. Step 7

Once a week contact a person you haven't spoken to in a while. Catching up will be a nice splash of color in your routine, and if they are local you can even make a plan to visit with them.

  8. Step 8

For truly habitual things (drinking coffee every day or going to the gym) do an even exchange. Drink tea one day instead, or work out with free weights instead of attending the yoga class you always do.

  9. Step 9

Pick up your local newspaper or publication with lists of special events for the week. Attend at least one a week.

  10. Step 10

Take a day off from work for no reason and do something you never are able to during the day like hitting the beach or going to a museum. Even one day off can make a huge difference and recharge you.
