Wrinkles are a visible reminder that we are not getting any younger. Many women, and even men, will do just about anything to treat fine lines, wrinkles and other age marks. Cosmetic acupuncture, also called facial rejuvenation acupuncture, is a natural, nonsurgical option to treat wrinkles, age spots and other blemishes.

Things You'll Need:

  • Cosmetic acupuncturist
  • Loose, comfy clothing
  1. Step 1

Assess the condition of your skin before you make an appointment with a cosmetic acupuncturist. Take notes about whether your skin is dry or oily and what facial products you routinely use to diminish wrinkles or blemishes. Write down what you would most like to change about your skin.

  2. Step 2

Consider your age when researching non-invasive ways to treat your wrinkles. Facial rejuvenation acupuncture shows the best results with patients who are between 45 and 70 years old. After age 70, deep wrinkles may not be able to be eliminated.

  3. Step 3

Select an acupuncturist who has experience with cosmetic acupuncture. Acufinder is an online acupuncture referral service that allows users to search for a provider by area of expertise (see Resources below).

  4. Step 4

Wear loose, comfortable clothing to your acupuncture appointment. Though most of the 30 to 40 needles used for this treatment will be inserted into your face and neck, you may also be treated for your wrinkles through acupoints in your hands and feet.

  5. Step 5

Clear your schedule for 90 minutes each week to undergo treatment for your wrinkles. This is how long a typical facial rejuvenation acupuncture appointment will last. Much of this time is spent relaxing on a massage table while the needles rest in their appointed areas of insertion.

  6. Step 6

Protect your skin from further damage by staying out of the sun and wearing sunblock when you are outside. Sun robs your skin of elastin and collagen, which gives skin its elastic properties and prevents wrinkles. Acupuncture can stimulate the body to produce more of these substances.

  7. Step 7

Commit to a full course of cosmetic acupuncture over 12 to 16 weeks to make your skin and body healthier. These changes may not be permanent, however, so you may need to return to your acupuncturist on a monthly or quarterly basis for "wrinkle maintenance."

Tips & Warnings
  • You should not use facial rejuvenation acupuncture to treat wrinkles if you are pregnant, have immunity suppression issues such as HIV, AIDS or hepatitis or if you experience migraine headaches and high blood pressure.
