How to Sell Textbooks on Craigslist

Craigslist has become a fad on the Internet, with people checking it for everything from jobs to dates. It might be just the place for you to get rid of those textbooks you have sitting around the house. You may even get a good price. After posting your book, just sit back and wait for the buyer to come to you.

Instructions

    • 1

Go to the Craigslist website and choose the big city nearest to you, or select your state if you live in a smaller state (see Resources below).

    • 2

Click on the "For Sale" list.

    • 3

Click on "Post" to begin listing the textbook you want to sell.

    • 4

Click on "Apply for Account." You will be prompted to enter your email address and an email will then be sent to you.

    • 5

Click on the link in the email to make up your password, as you will need one to make postings on the site.

    • 6

Determine how much you want to sell the book for by considering how much you paid for it and the amount it is worth in its current condition.

    • 7

Fill out your posting with the book's information. Put the textbook's title and author as the "Posting Title." Include the condition of the book as well as any other helpful information, such as the class it was used for, in the "Posting Description."

    • 8

Fill in the city or town in which you live. Your email will automatically appear in the provided space.

    • 9

Add images of the book if you would like prospective buyers to have an idea of what it looks like.

    • 10

Click "Continue," and you will get to confirm the information and post your book.

    • 11

Wait for potential buyers to respond to your posting. Craigslist will forward any responses to your email address.

    • 12

Set up a time and place to meet your buyer and sell your textbook.

Tips & Warnings

  • If your listing isn't getting any responses, try reposting it at a lower price.

  • If you arrange to meet a buyer for the sale of a textbook, be cautious. Always meet in a public place and during daytime hours.

  • Keep in mind that Craigslist recommends that its sellers deal only with local buyers to avoid being scammed.
