Though Father's Day sporting events are a popular choice for a lot of families, some dads would prefer to just hang out at home with those he loves. For a really great Father's Day, you can actually combine the two activities by gathering around and watching a good sports movie together on Father's Day. Just a few simple touches will make both the movie and the whole day truly memorable for your entire family.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Step1
Choose the appropriate type of sports movie on Father's Day. If your father is a die-hard fan, he may enjoy a serious documentary about his favorite team. However, if your dad is the more lighthearted type he may enjoy a good sports-themed comedy instead.
Step2
Go with the classics! There is an abundance of quality sports movies available. Watch Rudy, Hoosiers, Invincible or The Natural if you are looking for stories full of hope. Films like Ali and Prefontaine cover the true stories of amazing athletes, while favorites like Bull Durham, Slapshot, the Longest Yard, Dodgeball and Blades of Glory are pure sports comedies. All of these titles are available for rent or can be purchased online via Amazon (see Resources below).
Step3
Serve traditional game day snacks during the movie. Having nachos, beer and hot dogs will make the experience more vivid.
Step4
Watch the movie dressed in your favorite team's jersey and let all your guests know to come over in their team colors. You can purchase these jerseys at official retailers (see Resources below).
Step5
Hook up the surround sound system properly. Excited crowds cheering on their heroes and triumphant music are two of the most important elements of a sports movie, so make sure your sound system does your Father's Day sports movie justice.

Tips & Warnings

  • Instead of renting a sports movie for Father's Day, why not surprise your dad with a collection of his favorite sport themed films as a gift? That way, he can watch them as often as he wants. You can find a variety of movies from vendors such as Amazon.com (see Resources below).
  • If you are watching a movie as a family, make sure to check the rating of the film. Some sports films are rated R for violence or adult content and may be inappropriate for younger viewers.
