Fathers are notorious for being difficult to shop for, and Father's Day gifts are no exception. If you're lucky enough to have a sports fan for a dad, then you can't lose by choosing a sports oriented gift for Father's Day. A little knowledge and a sprinkle of creativity will result in a sports gift that will blow your dad away and make this the best Father's Day yet!

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Research your father's favorite teams. Serious sports fans tend to have preferences as to certain team lineups, uniforms or special time periods in their favorite team's history. Try to cater to those preferences when selecting a Father's Day sports gift.

  2. Step 2

Combine form and function by selecting practical gifts that come in team colors, logos or decorated with sports symbols. At NFLshop.com, you can buy gifts that range from specialty grills with his favorite team colors on it to football shaped phones and remotes (see Resources below). You can even have some fun with novelty gifts like toilet paper with his rival team's logo printed on it.

  3. Step 3

Invest in autographed memorabilia. Signed baseball cards, balls, jerseys and team photos can be found at specialty sports stores or even at the MLB official store (see Resources below).

  4. Step 4

Stir up some memories by contacting his old teammates if he was ever a member of a sports team. Have an old photo of the team blown up, framed and even signed by the old members. Most photo printers will have printing and enlargement services available.

  5. Step 5

Have a jersey personalized with your father's name and his favorite player's number. These personalized jerseys can be ordered through officially licensed sports stores, such as the NBA official store (see Resources below).

  6. Step 6

Consider a sports themed video game. Just about any sport can also be found in a digital version for just about any kind of game system. Be sure you know which kind of game system your father has, or the system details of his PC if he prefers computer games before you buy.

  7. Step 7

Visit Amazon to find a book about your father's favorite teams or even one written by his favorite player (see Resources below). These kinds of books can be large picture books that show the history of the team and their greatest moments, or biographies of coaches and players.

Tips & Warnings
  • Remember that major league teams have copyrighted logos and slogans that you may not be able to use legally if you choose to make a sports gift for Father's Day. Check with the particular sports league's copyright liability guidelines before settling on a commercially made gift.
