One way to make Father's Day extra special is to plan a father son trip to a favorite sporting event. Good seats and ballpark nachos go a long way towards some serious quality time and male bonding, so take some time and special care to plan out the perfect day.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Step1
Discuss your plans with mom first. If you plan your father son sporting event without her knowledge or input you may end up with some bruised feelings on your hands. More than likely she will support your plans as long as you share them with her first. The same goes for any sisters involved as well.
Step2
Research his favorite teams and find out if any of them are playing that day. Any sporting event will do for a Father's Day outing, but it will be even more fun if he can really get behind a team.
Step3
Add some nostalgia to the day. Have his old little league team reunite for a special game. Each team can be comprised of both fathers and sons, or you can play fathers versus sons. You may even be able to book his old home field for the game as well.
Step4
Make it a weekend event. Since Father's Day is always on a Sunday you can extend the holiday by taking a short road trip to see a game. You can even look into renting an RV for the weekend since most major stadiums have parking and hook ups available for just this purpose.
Step5
Plan a tailgate party for either before or after the game. A father son sporting event wouldn't be the same without good food and maybe a few beers. Write up a menu of his favorite game day treats and have a tailgate party for just the two of you.
Step6
Request that the stadium put a special message for dad on the scoreboard during the game. Most stadiums have fancy digital scoreboards that can even accommodate a photo of father and son together to accompany the message.

Tips & Warnings

  • Dad will be especially grateful for your planning efforts if you take him to a sporting event that he loves, but is not one of your favorites. Remember that the day is about him, and attending a game that you may not actually be interested in will help you get to know him better and it will really show him how much you care.
