How to Call on the Power of the Sun at Summer Solstice
The Summer Solstice, called Midsummer in Medieval times, is the day on which the sun's power is strongest. It typically occurs on or around June 21 and is designated as the first official day of summer. On the Summer Solstice, the sun is at its highest in the sky. This will be the longest day of the year as well as the shortest night. Pagans often celebrate the Summer Solstice with rituals and special activities.
Instructions
-
Perform a Litha Ritual
-
1
Sweep the area in which you plan to call on the power of the sun.
-
2
Represent Elements of the Quarters with careful placement of Quarter candles and any other accessories you have for this purpose.
-
-
3
Buy or pick some seasonal flowers, using them to adorn your altar. Sunflowers are a popular choice for this purpose.
-
4
Gather summertime herbs, like chamomile, wild thyme and yarrow, and put them in a cloth pouch. As you do so, pour in your negativity as well. This includes pain, illness and strife as well as heartbreak, worry and anger.
-
5
Position the cauldron at the altar's center and arrange your colored candles around it. The red sun candle should stand at its left and the green goddess candle to its right. Set one cup of spring water in front of the goddess candle, making sure the water is fresh.
-
6
Purify your body by taking a bath or a shower.
-
7
Spend some time in quiet meditation, following up by grounding and centering yourself.
-
8
Choose some music that makes you feel at peace and play it as you prepare to call on the power of the sun.
-
9
Face south and hold both of your arms high. With your wand in your hand, begin casting your circle. As you do so, perform the "Litha by Akasha" ritual as listed on the Wicca website (see Resources below).
