The most romantic place on the planet!
The most romantic place on the planet!

If venturing beyond Mexico and the Caribbean for a tropical vacation sounds like your idea of a perfect winter getaway, get to French Polynesia for luxurious beach fun. The question always remains: What do I wear?

From Quick Guide: Retreat to the South Pacific
Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Great weekender or other small-sized luggage
  • Strong packing discipline
  1. Step 1

Use a small bag. Because Bora Bora has no direct flights, you will take a smaller plane from Tahiti's main island to your resort. Before you even begin to pack, make sure to buy or borrow a small weekend bag, even for a week long trip.

  2. Step 2

Bring at least three swimsuits (both men and women) and a couple pairs of sandals for the beach and evenings out. Remember, you will be just below the equator, so you won't need much. French-island style is simple and polished: Lightweight dresses for ladies and linen trousers for guys. Hawaiian-print and Corona T-shirts scream "obnoxious tourist."

  3. Step 3

Pare down your basics. Makeup? Only bring the absolute essentials. Jewelry? Not while you're snorkeling. This likely won't be a high-adventure vacation, so bring mellow hobbies like books and sudoku, and download some fresh, chill music for your hut.

Tips & Warnings
  • Plan what you'll wear in advance on paper to avoid over-packing.
  • Don't over-pack shoes or beauty items. You won't need them!
