      Put a few pieces of ice in a baggie.

      Place the baggie with ice in it on top of the gum. Hold the baggie over the gum, but don't press it down, until the gum freezes.

      Crunch the brittle frozen gum with your fingers or hit with a small hammer to break it apart. Pick as many pieces as possible from the carpet pile. Scrape remainder up with a spatula or dinner knife. Vacuum up loose pieces.

      Clean any residual stain with a dry-cleaning solvent, all-purpose spot remover or spray spot-remover. Rinse completely with cold water and blot up excess moisture.
