Volunteering can be a very rewarding job for you and those who benefit from it. A lot of people wait until they retire to volunteer. This is great because you can relax and enjoy your retirement while staying busy at the same time. However, times are changing. Many companies are now encouraging their employees to do volunteer and charity work at least 1 hour per week. Some companies want you to devote that hour to one particular non profit organization or charity, while others will give you some choices.
Then there are those of us who simply want to give back in our own ways to particular non profit organizations and charities.

Things You'll Need:

  • Resume
  • Valid identification
  1. Step 1

Find your passion! What makes you happy? A lot of the time your hobby can become something you include in your volunteering. Somebody who loves to play the guitar can volunteer at local nursing homes singing oldies. Somebody who loves to paint can paint a portrait of fallen soldiers for the family. Somebody who loves to read can volunteer at their local library. Discover what you enjoy to do (your passion, your hobby) so you can really enjoy your volunteer and charity work.

  2. Step 2

If you are already volunteering somewhere and do not enjoy it, you need to make some changes. Talk with your supervisor to see what can be done. You really should be enjoying your time doing charity work and volunteering. If you find yourself no longer enjoying it you do not have to just keep doing it. You should have fun with it. You should look forward to your volunteer work. You might be happier working in a different department or doing something entirely different.

  3. Step 3

Your location will be a good part of your decision making when choosing where to volunteer. Many local charities and non profit organizations that need help constantly are local food banks, homeless shelters, libraries and animal shelters.
