We have all seen fake magazine covers like this one with "yours truly." They are easy to make and free at fakemagazinecover.com (see Resources below). All you need is a JPEG image and an image editing program to add your own phony text. There are over 400 covers to choose from and dozens of other fun photo applications to play with. Here is how to create your very own personalized covers.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • A JPEG Image for your cover
  • Access to the Internet
  • An Image Editing Program
Step1
Upload the image of your choice by simply clicking on the browse button. If you wish to import a photo from a website, type in the website name and click import.
Step2
Select the file to upload and click OK.
Step3
Once you have uploaded your image, click on the FAKE MAGAZINE COVER to select a template. There are a lot of other fun tools, but don’t get distracted--you can play with those later. Now we have a magazine cover to make and you can literally do this in minutes.
Step4
Scroll through the pages of cover templates until you find the one you want. For this we will select the "Time Magazine" cover. Double-click on the cover you want and within a few seconds it will be displayed on your computer.
Step5
Save the cover immediately by right-clicking on the image and selecting SAVE IMAGE AS. You will not be able select a file type; it will automatically be saved as a JPEG in the directory you select. Type in the image title and click SAVE.
Step6
You cannot edit the text that is part of the template. You can do this with other purchased applications that create magazine covers. However, you can open the image in GIMP, Photoshop or another imaging editing program to add text. Call it vanity, but I like seeing myself as Time Photographer of the Year!

Tips & Warnings

  • Use the covers you generate on your website or print them for special events or birthday parties.
  • Kids love seeing themselves on "Sports Illustrated" or "Cosmopolitan." Print them out for your next birthday party.
  • Print them on high quality paper, frame them and give them as gifts for birthdays or anniversaries.
