Step 1
Do some detective work and figure out what sets your boss off. Make note if he is worse in the morning, evening, after getting bad news, or over the phone. This will give you a leg up when interacting with your boss.
-
Step 2
When ever you have to talk to your boss, first take a deep breath. This will always keep you calm.
-
Step 3
Every time you feel yelled at by your boss, practice the art of letting the words roll off your back. This is not as hard as it seems if you go into the conversation with this idea in mind.
-
Step 4
Even a mean boss will occasionally give you a compliment or good advice. When this happens, write it down to remember that you are getting something out of the difficult relationship.
-
Step 5
If your boss crosses a line, you must say something to her, or better yet, her superiors. Confrontation is hard, but if you keep a level head and remember that you are in the right, it is a necessary action.
