Step1
FASFA
File for FASFA and Board of Governer's Fee Waiver early. This allows you to get money for college, because you are poor.
Step2
Scholarships
Look into Scholarships or Grants, because these can also be a good source of money for college.
Now, loans are not recommended, but if you have to then you have to.
Step3
College Entrance Exam
Flunk your College Entrance Exam at the Junior College. You will get into EOPS if you have a low Math or English score or repeated courses in High School. (You have to prove it though).
EOPS offers reduced parking passes, fee waiver for transfer application, and money for books.
Step4
Credit For Prior Learning (AP/DANTES/CLEP)
I would recommend taking AP classes in high school, but if you haven't take CLEP, DANTES, or other acceptable credit by exams tests.
* Most junior colleges accept up to 30 units of Credit/No Credit for General Education, which means you will pay less.
Step5
Online Courses
Look into online classes at the Junior College. Cerro Coso (California) is a good example of a Junior College, which offers most General Education online.
Step6
Stick with what you are good at. Don't try to be something you are not or major in something you suck at or what others want. (You will be happier in the long run.)
Step7
Save Money
Get a job and SAVE money. You will need it later.
Step8
Move on in your Education
Decide early what 4 year institution that you wish to go to, if not then we're done here.
Look at their requirements for general education and your major. Then pick the classes that will count towards your major and/or general education.
Step9
Move on in your Education
Transfer with 70 units, so you can pay less at the four year institution. Instead of paying for 60 units, you will pay for about 50 units, because it depends on your major.
