About seven years ago, I was working in a Chinese restaurant trying to shed its typical Chinese restaurant image and get a little hipper and edgy. They asked me to come up with a couple of signature drinks and I came up with this little cocktail because I love chocolate and ginger together. (Chances are other people have invented the same or similar cocktails. What can I say, great minds think alike.)

From Quick Guide: Holiday Cocktails
Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • 1 ½ ounces of good grade vodka
  • ½ ounce of a chocolate liqueur
  • a couple of slices of fresh ginger
  • ¼- ½ teaspoon of superfine white sugar
  • cocoa powder
  • chocolate curl
  1. Step 1

    Chill a martini glass.

  2. Step 2

Put your ginger slices in the bottom of an empty shaker can. Add sugar and muddle until the ginger is mashed a bit and the juices flow and it just smells really good.

  3. Step 3

Add ice, vodka and chocolate liqueur and shake well to dissolve the sugar.

  4. Step 4

Rim the martini glass with cocoa powder. (Use a lime wedge to wet the rim then dip the edge in a plate of cocoa powder.)

  5. Step 5

Strain cocktail into glass and garnish with a chocolate curl. (You can make a chocolate curl with a bar of chocolate and a vegetable peeler.)

Tips & Warnings
  • You can also used candied ginger instead of fresh ginger and sugar.
  • Use chocolate liqueur and an Irish cream for a creamier, heavier cocktail.
