Homeschooling creative writers with a creative beacon of hope in the midst of their lives will inspire a field of wordsmiths. Encouragement goes a long way in getting young writers ignited on their way to completing a short story, play or book of poems. There are simple ways to stimulate their minds. After the first successful poem or short story is written, the smile coming from his or her heart will warm the whole house.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderate

Step1
Have them draw inspiration from their real life. Playwright Lorraine Hansberry drew the characters from her family’s experience growing up in a community. Computer-based homeschoolers have a wellspring of sources from family, friends, current events and other inspiration to create characters for writing a short story. With the right set of characters linked to fictional-character archetypes, short stories, poems and other writing can come from the nimble fingers of homeschoolers. A few black-history month plays may even be born that could appear on Broadway.
Step2
Help homeschool students shape their writing. Becoming a wordsmith early means he or she could blossom into a creative writer. Writing is an art form and should be treated as one, as the training for being a creative writer should be to release the creative mind that lingers within each of our students. Computer-based, homeschooled creative writers will be able to dedicate poems, produce a small play or dream aloud in a short story.
Step3
Practice outlining and other techniques. Short-story writers use many writing techniques to bring about that best seller or award-winning short story. Use an outline for writing a short story can not only get a young writer a good grade in English, but also get them a standing ovation from their peers. One basic outline for writing a short story is as follows:

Theme: Child against nature.
Problem: Family doubts his abilities or invisible magical creatures.
Plot Magical creatures attack begins at sunset.
Resolution: Father witnesses attack and supports his son.
Conclusion: Magical creatures are defeated.
