It's a holiday associated with the green hills of Ireland, green clovers and leprechauns in little green hats. The Patron Saint of Ireland St. Patrick is celebrated every March 17th and although the color of the decorations and even the beer may be green, it's a good possibility that the environment isn't part of the theme.
Just as St. Patrick is rumored to have bettered his environment by removing the snakes from its land, make an effort to better yours as you celebrate this St. Patrick's Day. Here's how:

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • organic or local produce
  • linens
  • reusable plates, glasses and decorations
  1. Step 1

As you make up your corned beef and new potatoes for dinner, plan to serve on your regular dishes and not paper or plastic that will require throwing away. Use your silverware and glasses for your guests, too. The cleanup is not as bad or you as the waste paper and plastic can be on the environment.

  2. Step 2

When buying your potatoes and cabbage, go to your local farmers market to keep the money in the local economy. They will probably have organic products and their products require no transportation costs like fuel that gives off emissions into the air.

  3. Step 3

Decorate your scene with reusable decorations that you can pack away for next year. Green and white soy candles are a great accompaniment to any St. Patrick's setting.

  4. Step 4

As your Irish Eyes are Smiling during the celebration, keep an eye out for leftover foodstuffs. Throw the veggies and fruits into your compost heap to create rich and nutrient-filled soil for your garden or lawn.
