Water leaking down to a refrigerator usually means that there is an abundance of ice. Here are a few simple steps to fix the problem.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Pot of boiling water
  • Towel
  • Insulated cooler
  1. Step 1

The first thing you need to do is empty out the freezer. Store it temporarily in a large insulated cooler.

  2. Step 2

    Shut the freezer thermostat off

  3. Step 3

Boil a pot of water and place in the freezer. Shut the freezer door and let the water stay inside for approximately fifteen minutes.

  4. Step 4

After 15 minutes, check to see if the ice is loose enough from the freezer walls to be removed. Using your hands, break free any ice that comes off easily and put it in your sink.

  5. Step 5

Replace the boiling water with more boiling water and repeat the process until all ice is removed.

  6. Step 6

Wipe the freezer walls clean with a towel and check to make sure there are no cracks on the bottom of the freezer.

  7. Step 7

Now, you can turn the thermostat back on and restock your freezer. Temperature should adjust within the hour to its original temperature.

Tips & Warnings
  • Never use sharp objects when you are removing the ice from the freezer. If you puncture the coils that are under the freezer walls, it will no longer work.
