Text messaging is a quick way to communicate, but learning some tricks can make sending messages even faster. Here are some tips for speedy texting.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Learn where all of the keys are located. Memorizing the keys will allow you to text by touch rather than having to look at the phone.

  2. Step 2

Use numbers as letters. Such as, rather than typing out the word “late” simply type “L8.”

  3. Step 3

The quickest way to get numbers to show up is to hold down the appropriate key. You do not need to scroll through all of the letters for the number to show up.

  4. Step 4

Leave out letters from words. For example, rather than typing out the word “thanks” just type “thnx.”

  5. Step 5

Don’t worry about spelling errors. Instead of texting the word “done” spell it “dun” to save a letter and time.

  6. Step 6

Certain phrases can be spelled out with the first letter of each word. For instance “talk to you later” can be typed out as “ttyl.”

Tips & Warnings
  • Program regularly used phrases into your phone. Many cell phones offer templates to avoid typing out common texts like “Hello,” “How are you” or “I love you.”
  • When sending texts to those unfamiliar with this form of communication, abbreviations may seem confusing.
