How to Use Mist Abilities in Final Fantasy XII

Final Fantasy XII is Square Soft's biggest, most recent Final Fantasy epic. With nearly a hundred hours of gameplay, you'll definitely want to know what you're doing. And that means knowing how to use Mist.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderate

Things You’ll Need:

  • Playstation 2 or 3
  • Final Fantasy XII

Step1
Acquire the Mist! You won't be able to do anything with mist until you acquire mist abilities on your license board. Quickenings are available on the board from the beginning of the game, but Espers must be found and defeated in battle before they appear on your board.
Step2
Assign your Quickenings broadly. Each character will end up with three Quickenings by the end of the game, so the only real question is who goes first. Since combo attacks are the most powerful, try to get one quickening for each character before stacking three on one character.
Step3
Stack Espers on your winner. When summoning an Esper, only the character who summoned it stays in battle. If you have one character who is stronger than the rest of your party (due either to higher level, better stats, or more licenses), giving that character the Esper will ensure that your most powerful character stays in the fight.
Step4
Chain Quickenings for Combos. With three Quickening-enabled characters in your party, having one cast a Quickening will let the other two add their powers as well. Be sure to click on the Mist Charge option if it appears, as that may add another chance for a chained Quickening and more damage.
Step5
Save Mist abilities for difficult situations. Using Mist drains a character's mana pool, and can leave you adventuring with no spellcasting ability, so generally speaking, don't waste Mist unless you are fighting a boss or in some other tricky area.

Tips & Warnings

  • An exception to Step 5 is save points; if you are near a save point that will recharge all your mana, feel free to use mist abilities with impunity, as you can recharge instantly.
  • Mist animations can take a while, so be sure you need the damage before you cast them.
