Things You'll Need:
- Kahuna board game
- An opponent
-
Step 1
Wait until the last minute. You have a 5-card hand limit, which means that unless there's a pressing reason to play a card, you may as well draw until you can't draw any more. Holding five cards at once gives you more options than playing and then holding two cards.
-
Step 2
Focus your attack. Especially in the early rounds, putting random bridges all over the board won't do you much good. Play your bridges towards the goal of claiming islands.
-
Step 3
Hulk smash! Claiming an island drops a big hand print that can destroy opposing bridges, which means that claiming an island your opponent has a bridge on is advantageous for you.
-
Step 4
Time your strikes. Getting maximum efficiency out of your hand means making sure your plays all advance your goal. If you hold an island card that is also in the face-up pile, consider waiting to play until you draw that card. Holding both cards for a single island will allow you to make a power play, especially if you have cards for a connecting island as well.
-
Step 5
Remove and replace. In the late game, one of the most devastating blows you can deal to an opponent is to replace one of her bridges with one of yours. This is most effective on 5-bridge where your opponent holds a 3-2 majority. Removing one bridge and replacing it with yours shifts the claim from your opponent to you, and destroys two more of her bridges in the process.
-
Step 6
Protect your holdings. If your opponent is good, he will also be playing with some of the above strategies, so do your best to counter them. You can prevent being remove/replaced on any given island by either holding both cards for that island, or simply holding an overwhelming majority such that one bridge would not swing the control.
