How to make wooden spoon puppets

This is a wonderful rainy day project that your children can play with any time of year. My daughter carries a couple of these in her purse and engages children to play no matter where we travel to during the day.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Things You’ll Need:

Step1
Paint the spoons all over and this will be the skin tone. My daughter even has a group of alien men that are purple and green. Paint on eyes and a mouth. You could use buttons or glue on other objects you have loose around the house. Paint thin and it will dry faster. You can go over it again or use a hair dryer. Nothing kills a child’s fun like waiting for the paint to dry.
Step2
Cut the yarn to any length you care to and glue it. One of the spoons my daughter has she swirled the yarn around gluing it as she went. This is grandma with her hair up in a bun.
Step3
You can make clothing for your spoons. The best way is to cut them out in the shape of a body outline and glue them to a piece of paper. The paper works to starch the fabric and make it stand up. Glue the paper to the handle of the spoon. For an added touch glue a back to the paper covered in the same fabric. Then when your puppet walks away his bottom will be covered.
Step4
Use your imagination the sky is the limit here and with as many sizes and shapes that humans and animals come in you could end up with a whole house full of them.
