Publishing a website hosted by .Mac to a personal domain address typically takes just a few steps.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderate

Things You’ll Need:

  • A .Mac membership
  • iWeb ‘08
  • Personal domain name

Step1
Acquire a registered domain name. To purchase one, simply log on to any of the domain registrars available on the Web (see Resources below).
Step2
Build a website using iWeb ’08. It’s a fairly simple process that can be completed in an hour.
Step3
Log on to your .Mac account. Go to “Account” and select “Personal Domain.” The site will then provide instructions for proceeding. The instructions prompt the user to confirm the domain name.
Step4
To complete the process, go to the domain registrar’s website, where your personal domain name was purchased. You must change some settings so that the website you created will be published onto the personal domain address. Once you are on the domain registrar’s website, point your domain by adding or changing the “cname record” to “web.mac.com.” If you have problems with this portion of the work, contact the support team with the domain name registrar for assistance.

Tips & Warnings

  • It may take up to 48 hours for the process to take effect and for the website and domain name to match up.
