There are times when we all feel a bit down. It happens. You go for a job interview that you desperately need, one you've studied two weeks of software for, only to find it's a recruiting firm that just wants to put you into a "pool" and that the testing won't be required, and then the guy you're thinking is going to rent the spare room doesn't call or show up for the interview..and leaves you waiting there flat...or maybe you've a recent break up, or the job isn't going so well, or everything that could go wrong has seemingly gone wrong..and there you are, about to cry or scream, or punch a hole in the wall! Having been there myself more than a few times, I thought I might pass some tips along that work for me, to help you over the hump and past that blue period.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderate

Things You’ll Need:

Step1
REALIZE that tomorrow is another day. No matter how great the situation may seem, time can heal everything. If it's a break up you're getting over, after a period of time you will recover. These things do pass. Most depression passes, and if it doesn't, then it's time to seek professional help. There are pills and remedies out there. The point to realize is that everything can get better with time and as long as you are alive, things can change and will because anything that stands still and doesn't move is dead. Just know that things will change.
Step2
Get outside! When you feel blue they say that exercise is the best remedy, even if it's just a walk. Exercise is proven to release endorphins in the brain. If you're depression is caused from a depletion in Seratonin this can be a quick fix.
Step3
Sugar. Eating sugar has been known to help you feel better. Chocolate, or icecream will help.
Step4
Diversion. It's a good idea to do something, like take in a movie, or paint that old dresser a vibrant color. Get active and get involved. This is certain to get your mind off your troubles.
Step5
Conversation. It defiantely helps to talk to people about what's bothering you. If you have friends who are willing listen, chat it up with them. If you don't, there are free help lines where you can speak anonymously to a counselor. If you have a church or some religious affiliation, most have someone you can talk to about your troubles. Sometimes the remedy is to talk it out. It can help you to clear your mind, your chest and get a good focus on what is really going on inside you.
Step6
Rest. It's true, most people get depressed when they haven't had eough sleep. Getting the proper amount of sleep is essential to maintaining balance in your life.
Step7
Meditation/Prayer. This has been know to help you center yourself.

Tips & Warnings

  • count blessings.
  • Focus on what is good in your life and what is working
  • sing, dance move..shake off those blue feelings
  • be around positive up beat people
  • Know when it's time to seek professional help. Don't be afraid to seek counsel if your thoughts go to a very dark place. There is no shame in depression these days.
