How to Make Flash Cards

Got a big test coming up? There's no easier way to study for a wickedly hard test or to help memorize facts than by making and using flashcards. Seeing the facts flash by one by one on the white squares helps your brain retain each separate bit of information, and you'll be surprised at how fast you learn and remember.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • Black marker
  • Pack of white index cards

Step1
Buy a black marker and a pack of index cards.
Step2
Write out the most important facts as questions on the front of the card. (For instance: "Who was the first president of the United States?")
Step3
On the back of the question card, write the answer ("George Washington!"), making sure the pen doesn't bleed through and you can see the answer on the front!
Step4
You can also make flash cards to help kids with multiplication tables, adding and subtracting, or with vocabulary words. Simply write the math problem or vocabulary word on the front of the card, and supply the answer (or word definition) on the back.

Tips & Warnings

  • You can use colored markers and colored index cards if you have a variety of tests coming up and you want to easily differentiate between the subjects. Yellow cards can be for anatomy, for example, and blue cards can be for math.
  • Kids might like colored cards or flash cards with colored ink or fun stickers on them to liven up the studying mood.
