Step 1
Before asking a question, know that Asking costs you 5 points. Through the different levels, you have a limit on how many questions you can answer. From levels one through four, you are limited to how many questions you can ask but from five through seven, it becomes unlimited as you make your way up the Leaderboard.
The point is, as you give five points to answer a question, you can earn just as many by answering more questions. -
Step 2
Enter your question. Be more specific for better answers on the topic. You can also click on "Check Spelling", you also have 110 characters to work with in what I like to call the Heading but you must also comply with the Community Guidelines.
On the second text box, you can add more details to give the Answerers a better definition of what you need information on. Remember, the more details you provide, the better your results will be. In this second text box, you have 1000 characters to work with.
Finally, click 'Preview' or 'Cancel'. By clicking 'Preview', you can review the question as your Answerers will see it and by 'Cancelling' it, you don't want to ask the question anymore. -
Step 3
By Categorizing your Question, you can help other people find the question and answer it. There are a lot of categories, you can choose from - at least 24 categories and even more subcategories, so feel free to do what's comfortable for you.
Yahoo! also allows you to receive e-mail alerts to when someone answers your question or to add it to your Messanger status so your online friends can see it and probably respond to it.
You can also click on 'Preview' to see where it'll appear and also see what the Answerers see or 'Previous' to edit what you've made a mistake on it. -
Step 4
Finally, your question has been posted for all the Answerers to see. Once the question is posted, Answerers can add stars which means they find the question Interesting.
There is also more features for you because by clicking on the little pencil below the question: adding more Details, Extending the Expiration date, Deleting the Question, and Stop Emailing you New Answers.
