Before you begin planning the date, find out some things that interest the other person. For example, perhaps you have a similar taste in music or both like to take long walks in Central Park. Knowing information such as this will help you plan your first date in New York.
Step2
Since it’s a first date, don’t try to be overly romantic. A carriage ride around Central Park, for example, may be nice for a couple that has been together for awhile. However, it probably isn’t appropriate for a first date.
Step3
Consider adding one of New York’s numerous free activities to your plans. For example, there are many museums and art shows in New York that are free to the public. Going to one of these and having a meal afterwards could be a rather nice first date.
Step4
Let the weather guide you when planning a first date in New York City. During the winter months, a trip to Rockefeller Center may be nice. In warm weather, perhaps the two of you could enjoy a nice outdoor picnic.
Step5
Have a meal at Cosi in Union Square. Cosi is one the best restaurants in all of New York for a first date. It is relatively inexpensive, there is plenty to choose from for both a dinner and/or a dessert and the ambience of the restaurant makes it an overall great destination for a first date.
Step6
If there is a tourist destination that neither of you have been to, consider going to that place during the first date. Perhaps neither of you have ever been to the top of the Empire State Building, for example. This could be a great idea for a first date in New York.

on 7/29/2008 Wonderful suggestions, especially step two. Acting overly romantic on first dates usually backfires on a person.
