This article will teach you how to make letter and number flash cards for children or adults who are learning to read.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • 3 by 5 index cards, card stock or regular computer paper cut to size.
  • a variety of colored pencils or markers with a good stiff point

Step1
Separate index cards or cut paper so none are sticking together.
If using the index cards I like to use the unlined side for my letters and numbers.
Step2
Begin printing your letters and numbers on your cards, try to center them on the card. You can put upper and lower case letters on the same card, this helps your pupil to see the difference in size.
Step3
After printing your letters and/or numbers on the cards you can add pictures of items that pertain. Flip them over and on the lined side print words or number groups to further the learning experience.

Tips & Warnings

  • Use bright colors they will be easier to read and will hold your pupils attention longer
  • Let your pupil try to come up with their own word or number group for your flash cards
  • Have your pupil pick the matching letter out of the words you have printed on the back
