With a little time and creativity, it is easy to make a personalized valentine mailbox to bring to school or daycare. Once it’s full, the valentine mailbox can double as storage for all the cards and treats collected during the day. For a traditional valentine mailbox, start a few days before Valentine’s Day to allow time for glue to dry thoroughly.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Facial tissue boxes or other similar-shaped boxes
  • White glue
  • Glitter or glitter glue
  • Stickers
  • Construction paper or solid color fabric
  • Magazines
  • Markers
  • Round head fasteners
  • Paper doilies
  1. Step 1

Collect empty tissue boxes with an opening on the top to use as the base for the mailbox.

  2. Step 2

Measure out enough construction paper or solid color fabric to cover the entire box. Doing one side at a time is usually easiest, particularly if you have letter-size construction paper.

  3. Step 3

Glue evenly across one side of the tissue box and then cover with construction paper or fabric. Allow to dry. Repeat for each side, the top and the bottom of the box. Allow the box to dry overnight before moving onto the next step.

  4. Step 4

Make a mailbox flag from red construction paper or craft foam. Attach the flag to the covered tissue box with one of the round head fasteners. Leave enough play for the flag to slide up and down without destroying it.

  5. Step 5

Use the other supplies to decorate the covered box with hearts, designs or other personalized ideas. Use the glitter to enhance the mailbox with a little glitz. Stickers can also be used to make the decorations personal. Allow the valentine mailbox to dry completely before moving onto the next step.

  6. Step 6

Once everything is decorated and dried put a name on the mailbox using the markers. Cut an opening in the construction paper that covers the origional opening on the tissue box so that people have a place to “mail” the valentines.

Tips & Warnings
  • Cut out pictures from magazines to add as decorations to the box.
  • Get paper doilies in a variety of colors for a textured effect on the boxes.
