Lighted candles enhance the feel of virtually any room. Glass candleholders add a classy, yet functional touch to any décor. Glass candleholders are remarkably easy and inexpensive to make, especially if basic materials are purchased from thrift stores or yard sales. Here are a variety of ways to decorate them.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Thin jewelry wire
  • Seed and dangly beads
  • Etching spray
  • Masking tape
  • Glass paint
  • Paint brushes
  1. Step 1

Purchase online or at a local craft store plain glass candleholders to decorate and personalize.

  2. Step 2

Use the wire to wrap a decorative pattern around the undecorated candleholders. It can be an open pattern or wrapped tightly to cover the holder completely.

  3. Step 3

Take some of the beads and thread them on small pieces of wire. Try to create an interesting or unusual pattern. Attach the small beaded wire to the wire wrap already around the candleholder.

  4. Step 4

Thread long strands of wire with seed beads and then use that wire to wrap the undecorated candle holder. Glass seed beads will shine when candles are lit.

  5. Step 5

Or make a pattern on one of the undecorated candleholders using the masking tape. Coat the candleholder with etching spray using light, even coats. Make sure to cover the entire area. Allow to sit, undisturbed, according to product directions.

  6. Step 6

Remove the masking tape after the alloted time has passed. Areas covered by masking tape during the etching process will be unmarked. Those areas not covered will be milky.

  7. Step 7

Tape a small picture or cutout on the inside of one of the undecorated candleholders. Use the glass paint to copy the picture onto the outside of the candleholder and then seal according to paint directions.

Tips & Warnings
  • Make several candleholders using different techniques but the same or similar colors to create a set.
  • Never leave a lit candle unattended. Even glass that is designed to hold the candles can crack or shatter, becoming a fire hazard.
