Making a beaded anklet is a great way to express your personal style. It will take some time and patience to master the art, but creating beaded jewelry is a fantastic outlet for the creative spirit. Beaded jewelry makes a unique wonderful gift for a friend or family member with allergies to traditional jewelry metals.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Assorted beads
  • Crimp beads
  • Bead tray
  • Jewelry wire or stretchy cording
  • Pliers
  • Wire cutters
  • Jewelry clasps
  1. Step 1

Purchase beads and jewelry-making supplies online or from a crafts store. Buy or borrow enough extra to cover issues or mistakes.

  2. Step 2

Measure the ankle for fitting. If the ankle is unavailable because it's a gift, assume 9-11 inches for the finished anklet. Select a length of elastic cord approximately 6 inches longer than the final product.

  3. Step 3

Make a pattern. Arrange beads on a bead tray in an appealing manner to the appropriate length. Include an allowance for the clasp. Once beaded, the anklet may be too long if the clasp is not accounted for during planning.

  4. Step 4

Attach the wire or cording to one end of the clasp. The clasp will act as an anchor and hold the beads in place. If using elastic cord, secure the cord with a knot and reinforce with a crimp bead. String the beads onto the wire or cording in reverse order, directly from the bead tray. Test the size of the anklet. Adjust length if needed for fit.

  5. Step 5

Attach the loose end of the wire or cording to the open end of the clasp. Secure jewelry wire using pliers and a wire cutter. Secure elastic cord with a knot and a crimp bead for reinforcement. Trim excess wire or elastic cord.

Tips & Warnings
  • Seed beads are small and comfortable to have against the skin. Larger beads may be uncomfortable and require extra cording or jewelry wire to make.
  • Select beads from the same color family in the beginning. It makes patterns easier to create.
  • Never leave beads or other small items where babies or toddlers can reach them because they could pose a choking hazard.
