If you want your child to get the most out of the activities you do together, make sure he is interested in what you are showing him. Without interest there is no effort but without effort there is no interest. The following tips should be helpful for encouraging interest.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Step1
The time of day is important. Activities he enjoys and is familiar with can be played at almost anytime of the day; those that are new should only be played when he is alert and ready for a challenge to ensure maximum attention is displayed.
Step2
Frustration or unwillingness to participate is a sign to stop. You will have many more opportunities to introduce him to the activity. Try to be positive and let him know it is alright, even if you spent significant time preparing for the activity. If he doesn’t mind, try doing the activity alone next to him. He wants to be just like you, in due time he will be ready to learn and explore with this activity like you.
Step3
Interest is generally created from having some kind of background knowledge to connect to the new activity. Always try to connect new activities to previous experiences or knowledge.
