Step1
So as babies parent it is important that you take steps in preventing diaper rash from occurring in the first place. Here are some simple steps that you should take to help protect your babies bottom...
* Change his/her diaper frequently! Even if baby's diaper does not feel that wet, you should change it often because even a little urine can cause diaper rash. Baby also sweat in his/her diaper so that can cause a diaper rash too.
Step2
* Don't use perfumed powder on your baby's bottom. These products absorb all moisture even natural moisture and can sit on babies bottom and actually cause a diaper rash. As well the perfumes can irate baby's skin.
* Make sure that every time you change babies diaper you wipe him/her as well with a wipe or a wet washcloth gently. When baby urinates some will become in contact with their skin and stay there unless you wipe it off. Even the smallest amount can cause a rash.
Step3
* Make sure that you check babies diaper at least once an hour to see if it needs changing.
* Use creams that contain zinc oxide ointment to help protect babies skin from moisture. If baby is going to be wearing the same diaper for an extended amount of time, like bed time, then apply a small amount of this cream. Ointments that I personally recommend are ...
Desitin Diaper Rash Ointment
A & D Diaper Rash Ointment
Prevex-Baby Diaper Rash Cream
If you are unsure then just look for the key words zinc oxide in the ingredients.
Step4
* Allow your babies skin to dry thoroughly before you apply a clean diaper each time especially after a bath.
* If baby gets a lot of rashes after following the proper steps to try and prevent it, then switch the diapers and wipes that you are using. Maybe he/she is irritated by something in them. Switch brands and even check the soap that you are using to wash baby. Try items for sensitive skin.
Step5
* Try to allow baby's skin to go awhile without a diaper on for a bit each day. Place a open cloth diaper under him/her during nap time. This will help let baby's skin dry naturally.
* Avoid creams that contain boric acid, camphor, phenol, methyl salicylate or compound of benzoin tincture. These are potential harmful to baby's sensitive skin. Check the list of ingredients and make sure none of these ingredients are in his/her cream.
Step6
These tips should help you keep diaper rashes at bay. If for any reason your baby is still getting diaper rashes then you need to talk to your baby's doctor. Your baby's pediatrician can prescribe him/her a hydro cortisone cream to use until the rash clears up.
