Things You'll Need:
- Skeet Trap
- Clay Pigeons
- Shotgun
-
Step 1
Buy a solid trap that is designed for rugged outdoor use. Test the trap before you buy it.
-
Step 2
Buy a significant amount of clay pigeons or skeet rubber. These are small, orange discs that you place in the trap.
-
Step 3
Use proper gun safety technique. Keep it unloaded and keep the safety lock on until you have set yourself at your shooting base. Always point the gun at the ground when loading it and unlocking the safety.
-
Step 4
Leave the gun at the shooting base and walk 60 paces away from your shooting spot and set up your skeet trap so that it fires a 60 degree arc perpendicular to where you are standing. Ensure that your partner can stand behind something solid when he operates the trap, such as a hill or a large group of rocks. Ask your partner to stay by the trap.
-
Step 5
Move back to your shooting base and yell “PULL!” for your partner to test the skeet trap.
-
Step 6
Watch the trajectory of the clay pigeon. It should reach its vertical peak in 6.9 seconds, then tail down after that. Again, watch for a 60 degree arc.
-
Step 7
When you are ready to shoot, yell “PULL” and shoot away.
-
Step 8
When you are finished with your turn, yell “STOP!” Unload the gun and lock the safety of the gun.
