Step 1
Determine the learning style of each of your twins before buying curriculum. This is an important step in deciding your approach to teaching. If you already don’t know, it’s a good idea to know your learning style; it affects how you teach.
-
Step 2
Buy curriculum that fits your twins’ learning style or buy curriculum that teaches to multiple learning styles. Some of these are unit studies, where homework and activities can be geared towards the student’s need.
-
Step 3
Teach courses like history by reading history books (not textbooks) aloud and talk about it with your children. This will help them to learn to discuss subjects rather than memorize facts and dates.
-
Step 4
Where it is possible, rather than reinforce lesson through tests, have your twins do something, like making charts or posters, draw pictures, keep journals, or build scale models instead. Give them a choice of what activity they do. This allows them to express their own individuality while reinforcing the lesson.
-
Step 5
Let your twins help decide their courses when they are old enough. This usually occurs when they reach high school. Although certain courses are required for graduation, give them a choice between several different curriculum.
-
Step 6
Watch for signs of competition or comparison between your twins when it comes to their schooling. It’s normal for children to gauge themselves against others their age and that can be a problem with twins. Do not allow negative comparison.
Explain learning styles and what it means to be right-brain or left-brain dominate. Praise their individual strengths.
