Add a Power Point Presentation to a Website

People are increasingly turning to the Internet to share video clips, broadcast programs and even give presentations. PowerPoint, Microsoft's presentation graphics program, is a common tool for creating slideshows and presentations. Once you've created a presentation, you can use the Web to share it publicly. And if your company has an intranet site, knowing how to add a presentation can come in handy. Adding a PowerPoint presentation to a website only takes a few steps.

Things You'll Need

  • A Computer
  • Microsoft PowerPoint application
  • A website or access to a web server
  • Knowledge of adding HTML files to a server

Instructions

    • 1

Open the PowerPoint presentation that you would like to add to a website.

    • 2

Click the File menu on the toolbar, and then select "Save as Web Page" from the menu.

    • 3

Select the correct location in which to save the file when the "Save As" window opens, and then type the name of the presentation in the "File Name" box.

    • 4

Decide whether you want to save the presentation as a Web page in HTML or as a single-file Web page in MHTML, a format that integrates all graphics, links and other supporting elements into one file. The latter may be more convenient, but some Web browsers may not yet support MHTML. Once you make your decision, choose that option in the "Save as type" box.

    • 5

Choose a title for your new Web page. Click "Change Title," type your chosen title in the "Page title" box and then click the "OK" button. This title will appear in the title bar of the browser when the Web page for your PowerPoint presentation is opened.

    • 6

Do not click "Save" yet. Instead, click the "Publish" button so that you can select the publishing options for the PowerPoint presentation. The Publish as Web Page window opens.

    • 7

Decide whether you want to publish the entire presentation or only certain slides, which browser to use for support and whether to display related speaker notes for the presentation. Select the necessary options based on your decisions.

    • 8

Click the "Web Options" button. A new Web Options window opens so that you can customize the presentation even further. Click the various tabs at the top and customize several options as needed, such as screen size, font size and type, colors, animation and target browser.

    • 9

Click the "OK" button to save and exit the window once your options are set. This takes you back to the Publish as Web Page screen.

    • 10

Click the "Publish" button to save the presentation in HTML or MHTML format. You can now upload the HTML file you just created to the Web server for your website so that others can begin viewing your PowerPoint presentation.

Tips & Warnings

  • To see what the final online presentation will look like, you can select the "Open published Web page in browser" box at the bottom of the Publish as Web Page window.
