Step 1
1) BUY BOOKS WITH YOUR NATIONAL DOCUMENTS.
Generally, most of the documents that helped to found the government of your country are available in book form or on the internet. Doing a simple search or going to a library or bookstore will provide you with the documents of the founders of your government. By reading these first, you will get a basic outline of the function of your nation and what the intent of the documents are. This will help to give you a frame of reference for where the country has gone from there. -
Step 2
2) FIND MULTIPLE NEWS SOURCES.
No single news source will provide you with everything you need to know, and many of them will report the news with a bias of some sort. The best way to know that you are getting all sides of the story is to listen to the news from multiple sources, including places without sponsors controlling their content (internet sites and news sources without corporate funding). -
Step 3
3) TALK TO EXPERTS AND REGULAR PEOPLE.
Many times, experts are the people who have all the details of a political situation, and can give you information on every bit of a subject’s theory and execution. But regular people are often better at getting to the big picture of the political situation. By spending equal time asking questions of both groups, it helps to keep your focus balanced on the details and the big picture. -
Step 4
4) GET INVOLVED.
Nothing will get you more aware of the political landscape than by involving yourself in it through volunteerism and commentary. Creating a political website, interviewing local and state politicians for an internet radio show, or working as a volunteer for government programs or election groups will immerse you in politics and give you a working understanding of politics in action.
