Those of you who like to knit know what it's like to put up with tangled, messy yarn. As you pull on the string to get a little more yarn from the ball, it can wander away from you or get tangled up in a big mess. Find out how to keep your yarn from tangling.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Food storage bag
  • Rubber band
  • Clean plastic container
  • Scissors or other cutting instrument
  1. Step 1

Grab a food storage plastic bag, such as a freezer bag (which offers the most durability), and place the skein of yarn into the bag.

  2. Step 2

Punch a hole in the bag with a pen or some other pointy object. Keep the bag closed with a rubber band.

  3. Step 3

Thread the end of the strand of yarn through the hole in the bag.

  4. Step 4

An alternative to using a food storage bag is using a clean, dry plastic container, such a juice or spring water container.

  5. Step 5

Cut off the bottom of the container.

  6. Step 6

Insert the ball of yarn into the plastic container (from the bottom).

  7. Step 7

Take the end of the strand of yarn and thread it through the top (or neck) of the container.

Tips & Warnings
  • A skein is a length or yarn or thread on a reel.
  • You can even loop the yarn over a doorknob. As you pull it, the yarn will come towards you in one clean, unmessy line.
