How to Make a Decorative Memo Board

A cork memo board is a great way to display photos, keep track of appointments and post notes. While incredibly functional, most cork memo boards are fairly plain and tend to detract from your kitchen, home office or cubicle décor. Making a decorative memo board is a project that marries form and function, turning an ordinary cork tile into a decorative accessory.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • 12 by 12-inch frame
  • 12 by 12-inch cork tile
  • 13 by 13-inch piece of fabric
  • Heavy duty craft glue
  • Scissors

Step1
Lay a piece of fabric that complements your décor face down on your work surface. Place the cork tile on the fabric.
Step2
Squeeze a thin line of glue across one edge of the cork tile. Pull the fabric tightly over the glue and hold it in place to create a seal. Wait a few minutes for the glue to set before repeating the process for the remaining edges of cork tile.
Step3
Cut each fabric corner, starting at the outermost point and finishing at the corner of the cork tile. Tuck the loose fabric underneath itself. Glue it to the tile for a finished look.
Step4
Remove the glass and cardboard backing from the frame.
Step5
Place the fabric-covered cork tile in the frame and replace the cardboard backing.
Step6
Hang the memo board on a convenient place in your kitchen, home office or cubicle.

Tips & Warnings

  • Finding inexpensive fabric is easy. Stop by the quilting section of your local fabric store and check out the fat quarters. These 18 by 22-inch blocks of fabric only cost a few dollars and are the perfect size for this project.
  • Buy push pins in coordinating colors to accessorize your memo board.
