It’s happened! Your son popped the question to his young lady and he’s officially engaged. Before getting into the craziness of wedding plans, plan an evening for a private celebration of your son’s engagement. Not only will it bless the young couple, it will set the tone for a pleasant relationship between the families that are uniting.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Step1
Extend an invitation to your son’s fiancé and her parents to join you and your son for supper. It will be easier on everyone if you choose to dine out at a restaurant. After all, you’re there to celebrate, not clean and cook.
Step2
Buy a gift for your son’s fiancé. A journal to keep memories of planning their wedding is nice or perhaps you a piece of jewerly that is a family heirloom. Buy a card to go with the gift and think of something special to write inside, such as your memory of when you realized that your son was falling in love.
Step3
During supper, exchange ideas for the wedding. Offer your help to make it a special day. Remind them that, while a wedding is a celebration for family and friends, this is their wedding and they should not let people tell them how to plan it.
Step4
Plan ahead to toast the young couple, even if you use ice tea or soft drinks. Think of something nice to say about them and their future life together.
Step5
Take pictures of the couple at the restaurant including your son’s fiancé opening her gift. Ask the waiter to take pictures of the family. These will be the beginning of their memories together.
Step6
Send notes to your son’s fiancé and her parents the next day, telling them what a wonderful time you had and how happy you are about the upcoming wedding and the two families uniting.
