Are you interested in finding a great part time job? If you are educated or have on the job experience this is a great option.

Difficulty: Challenging
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • great resume
  • internet access
  • references
  • on the job experience in a specified field
  • training experience is helpful
  1. Step 1

Many colleges have a division for adult learners called Continuing Education or Professional Development. If you have a skill or area of expertise this is a great way to make extra money and work part time.

  2. Step 2

First determine what is your skill or field you would like to teach. If you worked in Air Conditioning for a number of years, then you could teach this topic. If you are a wiz in computer programs then you could teach computer applications.

  3. Step 3

Check your local college for their comprehensive collection of leisure learning or professional development courses. Basically theses are non-credit courses you could teach with the right experience.
    Topics include:
    Cosmetology
    ESL
    Dance
    Martial Arts
    Florist
    Medical Billing & Coding

The list goes on and on.

  4. Step 4

Next look at your local college website. Look for the job openings under continuing education or professional development. If there is an opening it'll be listed as a part time or adjunct instructor.

  5. Step 5

These jobs often pay anywhere between 18.00 to 38.00 per hour. Depending on the topic and number of students that enroll in the class.

  6. Step 6

Apply for the an opening or contact the department directly. Even though they may not offer what you want to teach, they could be interested in offering that class next semester.

Tips & Warnings
  • If you have adult teaching experience at your previous job, be sure to list this on your resume.
  • This job is great for part time workers.
  • Many times you could land an assignment to teach a class at a company. So you are not always locked into night time hours.
  • Be prepared to deal with many types of personalities when teaching.
  • Be safe when leaving a campus at night. Most have great security, be sure you are aware of your surroundings. It's a great idea to have students walk out together if your class finishes late into the evening.
  • Breaking into the field can be slow. Aim to start with one school, then work to get on with another.
