How to Make a Breastfeeding Gift Basket

Choosing the perfect gift for a breastfeeding or expectant mother is much easier than you might think. With a little research and creativity, you can assemble a breastfeeding gift basket that will help any new mom build a successful breastfeeding relationship with her infant.

Things You’ll Need:

• Fabric lined gift basket
• Breastfeeding book
• Sling
• Lanolin
• Cloth or disposable nursing pads
• Burp cloths
• Ribbon in blue, pink or yellow
• Scissors

1. Research breastfeeding books by conducting a keyword search for “breastfeeding” on an online bookseller, then purchase the book online or at your local bookstore. Get recommendations from friends and family or by checking out online reader reviews.
2. Select a sling that is easy for first-time mothers to learn to use for breastfeeding. Pouch slings and ring slings are great first slings that you can purchase online or in specialty baby stores. Include instructions for the sling, so the new mom doesn’t get frustrated when she tries to use it for the first time.
3. Purchase nursing pads, burp cloths and lanolin from a local baby store, hospital lactation shop or online.
4. Gather all the gift items and gift basket supplies and place everything on a table. Carefully fold the sling and place it in the back of the basket. Place the breastfeeding book in front of the sling.
5. Place the lanolin and nursing pads in front of the sling and book. Cut several lengths of ribbon. Roll up the burp cloths, tie each one with a length ribbon, and then tuck them in between the rest of the items in the basket.
