You love to cook but you hate cleaning up the mess. Fortunately, it’s possible to cook without leaving a disaster behind. You can even sit down to a delicious meal with most of the clean-up already done. These instructions assume that you will hand-wash all the cooking utensils, leaving the dishwasher ready for all the dinner dishes, cutlery and glassware.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Clean dish towels
  • Dish detergent, steel wool pads, sponges for non-stick pans
  • Paper towels or sponges
  • Spoon rest
  • Broom, dust pan
  1. Step 1

As soon as you finish cutting up ingredients, wash the knife. Put the garbage into the bin or disposer.

  2. Step 2

When you have finished using all the measuring cups, spoons, bowls and equipment for one recipe, wash them, rinse with hot water and place in the dish drain. Let them dry while you go on to the next step of your recipe.

  3. Step 3

Think about the steps of each recipe. When a dish is simmering, for example, you can be putting away the dry items from the dish drain. Gather all the packages from the ingredients you used. Replace them in the refrigerator and cabinets as soon as you have finished with them.

  4. Step 4

Each time you finish with a step, wipe down the counters and cutting boards. Wipe up spills on the floor right away.

  5. Step 5

Keep a spoon rest on the stove to store your stirring spoon while a dish is cooking.

  6. Step 6

You should end up with various dishes on the stove cooking and all the ingredients and cooking utensils put away. Empty the trash and garbage.

  7. Step 7

Leave pots and pans on the stove or on the counter near the sink with water and detergent in them while you have the meal. This will prevent food from sticking on the pots and making clean-up harder.

  8. Step 8

    Sweep the floor.

Tips & Warnings
  • If you have a helper, assign her to do the clean-up as you work.
  • If you are cooking several dishes at the same time that need careful monitoring, group the utensils together on a counter. Then clean them up at the same time as soon as you have a break.
  • Let the stove cool before you clean the cook top and elements.
