"Lost" is a tremendously popular TV show about a group of plane crash survivors stranded on a mysterious island, but it usually leaves first-time viewers wondering what the heck is going on. "Lost" is filmed entirely on location in Hawaii. If you've ever watched an episode only to find out that you had more questions than answers, here's a quick guide to the sometimes complex plot.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Step1
Catch up with the back story. "Lost," which airs on ABC, begins with the Oceanic Flight 815 plane crash somewhere over the Pacific Ocean. The flight out of Sydney, Australia is mysteriously brought down out of the sky and crashes on an unchartered island. Seventy-one out of 324 people survive the crash and must band together to survive. They soon discover that the seemingly deserted island has special powers and encounter a group of malevolent residents known as "The Others." They also find a 19th century ship, remains of an ancient statue and bunkers belonging to the Dharma Initiative, a group of research scientists who recently inhabited the island before they arrived. The survivors try to stay alive, maintain peace with the others and get off the island.
Step2
Get to know the cast. "Lost" has a large but developed cast, including some mysterious characters. Matthew Fox who stars as Jack, a surgeon with a clouded past, emerged as the leader of the survivors. They have all bonded in their attempt to leave the island and have become something like a large family. It's common for new characters to join the show. ABC keeps some developmental notes and behind the scenes secrets on ABC Media Net (see Resources below).
Step3
Find out what others are saying. There are many fan-based websites out there dedicated to "Lost." Everyone has their own theory on what might happen next on the show, but it's interesting to follow the survivor's journey with others through these websites, such as Lost.com or LostTV.com (see Resources below).
