Take the time to squeeze family dinners in. Kids who eat as a family are much less likely to use drugs and alcohol and are much more likely to have better grades in school in comparison to kids who do not eat as a family.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • A calendar or a planner that is in a place that everyone can see.
  1. Step 1

Move dinner around everyone's schedule if possible. Be flexible! If you have to give the kids a little snack to hold them over, go ahead and do it.

  2. Step 2

Write everyone's schedule down on the calendar and make sure that everyone pays attention to it. Then you can have a set dinner time pre planned according to everyone's schedule.

  3. Step 3

Accept the fact that some days are not going to go off without a hitch but make your family commit to having dinner as a family at least five days a week. If you take it seriously then they will too.

  4. Step 4

Utilize the crock pot if your schedule is jam packed so you have no excuses for not cooking. Plus remember it is not what you cook that is as important as eating together.

  5. Step 5

Conversate, conversate, conversate! It does not matter what you are talking about, just talk and more important, listen!

Tips & Warnings
  • If you get together and pencil in all of the things that make the days so jam packed, you will be able to open up a window to make room for a family dinner.
  • It is not healthy nor is it beneficial in any way to have everyone just grab a plate and eat wherever they want to.
