Debt has become a way of life for many, and a certain amount isn't bad, in fact, it can be beneficial. If you're paying off a credit card balance or loan in a timely fashion, your credit actually improves. But if the debt collectors have put you on speed dial, you need a plan.

Difficulty: Challenging
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Swallow your pride. After five years of studying finance, it may be hard to wait tables. But working in a restaurant at night can pay the bills and leave the day free for more professional job interviews.

  2. Step 2

Make a budget. Write out what you’re spending your money on and cross off anything unnecessary.

  3. Step 3

See a financial adviser. Many counties offer free financial planning for people struggling with money. Visit a local bank to see if they can help you.

  4. Step 4

Don’t think too far into the future. As long as you’re doing all you can to get out of debt, there’s no use worrying about what will happen. In fact, over thinking your financial situation can cause severe anxiety and create an entire new set of problems.
