Winning in fantasy baseball comes down to your draft picks. Winning the draft takes more than great research; it also takes some serious strategy. Read on for a few suggestions.
Once your league has been established, it is up to you to check it all out before the draft. See how many teams are in your league as well as how many players and what positions each team has to fill. If it is a 14-team league with 15 roster spots, you know that you have to be very creative in the draft. Conversely, if there are only 6 teams, you know you can hold out on drafting certain players because there is such a bevy of good players out there.
Step2
Check out the roster slots on your team. See how many Utility slots there are or how many Relief pitchers you can have. Next, look at the stat categories being used. This is so important! You have to calculate which categories to go after, or dominate. You need a balanced team, but you also need one that can dominate some categories such as steals or on-base percentage. Draft accordingly.
Step3
Not every league uses the same categories to score; so check it out. See if pitchers or offensive players have more categories dedicated to them. If pitchers are getting as many or more stat categories, then focus your draft on pitching. Think about it. You usually get 2 starting pitchers and 2 relief pitchers on your roster. If they can dominate more than half the stats, then you have an instant leg up.
