How to Research for Your Fantasy Baseball Draft

It is almost that time again. Pitchers and catchers are reporting to spring training; so baseball will soon be back. Baseball returning means two things: warmer weather and Fantasy baseball. The key to any winning fantasy team in any sport is a winning draft. Read on for some tips to help you prepare.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderate

Step1
There is an endless supply of Fantasy Player information out on the Internet and in print. Look for player rankings (overall and by position). Vary your sources though; don’t just go with your Fantasy’s homepage and experts. There are literally hundreds of links to Fantasy baseball info on the web. I recommend sticking to the big dogs though like Yahoo, ESPN and CBS Sportsline.
Step2
The key to winning a draft is to be the guy who found the sleeper in the late rounds. The only way to do this is with thorough research. Most of the big dog sites have “Sleeper Picks” as a featured article. These guys are surprisingly accurate with their sleepers; so look for continuity between different experts. I have learned that the best way to find a sleeper is to look at your own hometown team(s). If you know baseball, you know who are the good up-and-comers in your team’s system.
Step3
Whatever you do, don't pay too much for information. A few websites offer draft advice for a cost. Remember, this is only fantasy baseball. Spending real money probably isn't worth it, especially when there is so much free information out there.
Step4
Remember that all the research you do is either from past stats and speculation for the next season; so nothing is lock solid. In the end, you have to make your own decisions about which players you think are going to have big years.
