How to Apply a Beeswax Finish

How to Apply a Beeswax Finishthumbnail
Use beeswax to keep your wooden furniture and floors looking new.

Beeswax finish was used over 100 years ago to protect and decorate wood floors and furniture. It can still be found today in hardware stores and online. However, beeswax doesn't protect as well as some newer finishes, so it must be applied more often. One advantage of beeswax over newer finishes though, is that it's natural, and therefore your home won't be filled with chemicals and fumes. It's good to use on older furniture, as it's less abrasive.

    Instructions

    Things You'll Need

    • jar of beeswax finish
    • 2 soft, clean cloths
      • 1

Dip a soft, clean cloth into a jar of beeswax finish and scoop up a small amount.

      • 2

Rub a small amount onto the wood, applying it with the grain. Make your coat thin and even. If you see a thicker, clumpier area, rub it along the grain until it thins out.

      • 3

Buff the thin coat of beeswax with a fresh, clean cloth until you achieve the desired sheen. Buff in the same direction as the grain; avoid circular motions.

      • 4

Repeat the process three to four times per year to maintain your wood furniture's shine and character.

    Tips & Warnings

    • If you can't find beeswax finish in your local hardware store, and you don't want to buy any online, you can create your own.
