Sometimes kids need kid height surfaces on which to play. Here is a quick way to build your own play table.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • (1) 8 foot long 2x4
  • (2) 8 foot long x 5 inch wide planks
  • Tape measure
  • Circular or table saw
  • Sander
  • Drill
  • Wood screws
  • Wood filler
  • Paint
  • Lacquer
  1. Step 1

Make these cuts from the 2x4:
    4 pieces @ 20 inches
Make these cuts from the 5 inch planks:
    4 pieces @ 5 inches x 30 inches
    2 pieces @ 2 inches x 23 inches
    2 pieces @ 2 inches x 18 1/2 inches
    2 pieces @ 2 inches x 17 inches

  2. Step 2

    Sand all surfaces.

  3. Step 3

Build the frame. Attach the 2x4 pieces and the 23 and 17 inch plank pieces so that you have a box that stands 20 inches high, 30 inches long and 20 inches wide. Make sure the plank pieces are flush with the tops of the 2x4 pieces. Span the middle of the frame with the (2) 18 1/2 inch pieces for added support.

  4. Step 4

Attach the top. Lay the 5 inch planks on top of the frame so that they are flush on all sides.

  5. Step 5

Fill in all holes with wood filler. Sand smooth.

  6. Step 6

Sand the edges of the top and the outside edges of the 2x4 legs to remove any sharp corners.

  7. Step 7

Paint to your liking (Let your kids help). Finish with 2 coats of lacquer for durability.

Tips & Warnings
  • Use a durable paint.
  • Never paint or stain without proper ventilation.
