Building your own entertainment center is both fun and suprisingly easy. Here's an afternoon project that will wow your friends.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • (1) 5 foot x 10 foot sheet of 3/4 inch plywood
  • Circular or table saw
  • Tape measure
  • Wood screws
  • Edgebanding
  • Drill/driver
  • Wood filler
  • Sander
  • Paint or stain
  • Lacquer
  1. Step 1

    Make these cuts:
    2 pieces @ 23 inches x 47 3/4 inches
    4 pieces @ 23 inches x 35 3/4 inches
    1 piece @ 22 1/4 inches x 35 3/4 inches

  2. Step 2

Sand all surfaces (buying prefinished plywood will save time on this step).

  3. Step 3

Lay the (2) 47 3/4 inch long pieces on thier 3/4 inch long face. Span the tops of the pieces with (1) 23 inch long piece also resting on its long 3/4 inch face. You will have a 23 inch deep "U".

  4. Step 4

Measure up 1 inch from the bottoms of the 47 3/4 inch pieces and span them with another 23 inch piece.

  5. Step 5

Stand the box up so that it stands 47 3/4 inches high. Attach another 23 inch piece BUT attach it vertically flush with the back (the other (2) 23 inch pieces are now horizontal).

  6. Step 6

Lay the box on its back (the side with the vertical 23 inch piece). Measure up 11 1/2 inches from the bottom 23 inch piece and attach the 22 1/4 inch piece. Its back will be flush against the vertical 23 inch piece.

  7. Step 7

Attach the final 23 inch piece so that its back rests on top of the vertical 23 inch piece.

  8. Step 8

Fill in all holes with wood filler. Sand smooth.

  9. Step 9

Apply edgebanding to all rough edges.

  10. Step 10

Paint or stain to your liking. Finish with 2 coats of lacquer.

Tips & Warnings
  • You can use a hole saw attachment for your drill to cut out a place for cords.
  • Never paint or stain without proper ventilation.
